Buttercross, Winchester High Street, Hampshire.

A fine limited edition watercolour print of the famous Buttercross on Winchester High Street, individually signed, titled and numbered by the artist, Glyn Martin.

In the Middle Ages, the Buttercross was in the centre of the market and was the focal point for civic ceremonies. It was erected in the C15th and the upper part was restored in 1865. It is surmounted by a high pinnacle and a cross and there altogether 20 statues in the various recesses. It is a matter of luck that the Buttercross has survived; it was almost sold as a garden ornament in 1770.

Supplied mounted (in antique white), backed and wrapped.

Overall size (mounted): 12.5" x 11".
