Original antique map of Lincolnshire, England, by Thomas Moule.

Guaranteed to be 175 years old, this beautiful antique steel engraved map was made in 1840.

Thomas Moule's superb county maps were unusual for the period in that they were highly decorative. The scientific rationality of the late C18th and early C19th had seen a move away from the flamboyance of earlier map making, emphasising instead a greater desire for accuracy, clarity and detail. However Moule (1784-1851), was drawn to a more simplistic, pre-industrial age. This is clearly reflected in his wonderfully decorative maps with their neo-Gothic borders, embellished heraldry and vignette views of historic buildings; ironically, the Moule maps issued later in the 1840s were amongst the first to show the newly constructed railways.

Individually hand-coloured with inset vignettes of Lincoln Cathedral and Grimsthorpe Castle.
